The Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library is bringing training experts to Pictou County – virtually. With the recent purchase of its LinkedIn Learning (also known as Lynda.com) training platform, the Library is now offering over 8000 free on-line training programs,
from photography to the basics of running a business.
The Regional Library purchased a subscription to the digital learning service because of the recognized need to support access to life-long learning opportunities, especially during the isolation and challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We know that many people and businesses in our community are currently looking at how they can adapt in these changing times. By offering free access to quality professional courses we want to help people explore their interests and skills without having to commit their budgets. We also know that many local business owners are facing financial difficulties and we hope that this service will help them gain access to training for themselves and their staff that helps to grow their business again.” said Greg Hayward, Technical Services Librarian.
Access to the training programs is through the Library website, www.parl.ns.ca and requires users to have a library card, which you can also request for free on the library website. Matt Kenny, Emerging Technologies Assistant with the Regional Library, sees value in the online courses for a variety of people. “There is something for everyone, from students to seniors. Whether they’re an up and coming entrepreneur, current business owner, a retiree looking to start a small business or someone who just wants to sharpen their skills, this training platform is a real game changer.”
“We want all of our Chamber members to have access to this”, said Jack Kyte, Executive Director ofthe Pictou County Chamber of Commerce. “The library staff was quick to offer the training to the Chamber as the two organizations continue to find ways to work together as community partners.
From a business view, there are too many training options to mention, everything from computer skills and bookkeeping to change management and innovation.” Said Kyte. “I believe our small business owners will really like the offerings for themselves and for their employees.” Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library is a registered charitable organization that operates 7 branches, a Borrow-By-Mail service, and extensive online and digital resources.
